STRIVE Prep is a community of public charter schools that challenges every student to strive for college, and thrive throughout life, by helping them to discover and develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college and beyond.

Our inclusive, transformative community seeks Teacher Residents to join our Residency Program for the 2020-21 school year.

At STRIVE Prep, we acknowledge that aspiring educators teachers deserve as many different kinds of supports and pathways in order to enter the teaching profession with confidence and success. From this belief, we started our Teacher Residency program, a collaboration between STRIVE Prep, Relay Graduate School of Education, and TFA Launch. Through one-on-one mentorship and coaching, we ensure every teacher has the tools necessary to thrive personally and professionally. And, for those individuals new to education, we provide even more access to learning resources and collaborative opportunities in the classroom, on campuses and across our network. STRIVE Prep’s prestigious paid, two-year teacher residency programallows aspiring teachers and career changers to enter the teaching profession through a supportive and gradual on-ramp.

Teacher Resident Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and academic preparedness
  • Possess a growth mindset, respect, and humility
  • Understand cultural responsiveness
  • Show strong communication skills
  • Have experience working with children
  • Can be adaptable and flexible

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Instruction :

  • Partner with Resident Advisor in a co-teacher capacity to deliver revolutionary instruction to scholars.
  • Gradually assume increased leadership and teaching responsibilities throughout the school year.
  • Learn how to analyze student data and use it to provide fair constructive feedback and to determine next steps for student growth.
  • Be available to students by phone every evening, Monday-Thursday, for homework assistance until 8:00 p.m.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, school leaders, curriculum specialists, and the special education team to ensure that instruction meets the needs of each learner.

  • Culture :

  • Support a student advisory at the beginning and end of each school day, and serve as a point of contact and advocate for students in the advisory.
  • Support systems and routines in order to create a safe, purposeful, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Communicate regularly and often with families to both solicit their input and share student social and academic progress.
  • Provide supervision of students during before and after school activities (arrival, dismissal, breakfast and lunch).
  • Own the success and learning of all scholars in the school.

  • Development :

  • Attend and participate in weekly staff and/or grade level meetings.
  • Participate in STRIVE Prep’s Summer Training Institute as well as professional development throughout the school year.

  • Graduate Program Responsibilities:

  • Complete all graduate coursework and participate in all in-person sessions.
  • Attend weekly deliberate practice sessions one day per week, (weekday).
  • Attend weekly core pedagogy class sessions one day per week (weekday evening).

  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree
  • Maintained a cumulative undergraduate (or graduate, if applicable), grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. (Preferred. Applicants with a GPA. of 2.75 to 3.0 will still be considered for admission by submitting an additional letter of recommendation that explains their qualifications for admission to Relay GSE).
  • Teaching experience is not required for Residents.
